Money scares me.

It really does. Or, to be more precise, not having money is what terrifies me. What if I can’t afford to pay rent? What if I get sick and need cash for the doctor?

At the same time, I’ve always looked at my primary skill in life, coding, as a way out of this fear, something that could bring me close to financial freedom and being wealthy.

But how do you do that? How to turn your coding skills into money? How can coding be your way to financial freedom in your life?

Let’s see that.

You Level up in Your Career

This is the most straightforward way to improve your money situation in life. Do you want more money? Then offer more value. So if you’re, for example, working with a dying technology, you could learn one of the new frameworks around like React.

By offering more value to the market, you can then charge more for your service.

If you’re working in a tech team, put everything you’ve got into your work, improve your skills, get to know the project more. Try to become a CTO or technical lead of that team. Again, offer more value and then ask for more.

Coding is a career that offers excellent opportunities for leveling up your position. From team member to tech lead, from tech lead to project manager. And so on and on.

The choice is yours; what skill or improvement do you need to get to the next level?

You Create Your Own Business

This is not the way everybody should choose. Being an entrepreneur is a way of living that doesn’t suit every individual. But also, this is one of the ways in which you can use your coding skills to make the most money.

I won’t go into all the legal and financial details needed to create your own company, as that would require a whole book, not an article. However, I would love for you to have this door always open somewhere in the back of your mind.

For a moment, try to switch your position from consumer to producer. Look at a website you use every day, try to understand their business model and the problem they’re trying to solve.

Now, look at problems that you have to solve every day. Is there already a solution for that? No? Why don’t you write your own then? Why don’t you use your coding skills to put in place software that solves somebody’s problem for a fee?

Think about the beauty of being a developer right now. You can have an idea, and you can have the skills to make that reality. So what is separating you from simply doing that?

You Influence Others

Recently, I read a fantastic book called “The Millionaire Fastlane” by MJ Demarco. It introduced to me something called the law of affection. This law simply states:

Affect millions and make millions.

Think about this for a moment. How many people do you know who affect millions and receive millions in return? I know hundreds of them, from famous book authors like J.K Rowling to famous singers and soccer players.

They attract millions to their creations, so they make millions.
Now, I know that making the next hit like Harry Potter is not so easy. But did you also know that there hasn’t been any better time to become a content creator?

If you have coding skills, why not writing about them online? Why don’t you start your own Medium blog or email list? There are millions of developers out there, and if you’re helpful to them, they will be more than willing to give you their money in exchange.

Money talk hit us all in the deep. Because talking about them means talking about survival, about fulfilling our needs and having a decent life. To be happy regarding money in your life means learning how to release their power to your advantage. And you do that by gaining knowledge about money.
