Retinitis Pigmentosa

Passing down from the ancestral lineage, this particular condition makes your vision drop off with age. The first alert is likely to come as difficulty seeing at night, specifically, when deciphering details through the side or peripheral visions. With time, the cones and rods in your retina die out, corollary fading the color vision. Henceforth, you witness issues in your front or central vision.

Retinoblastoma

With requisite pediatric care, this specific eye condition emerges into the picture from cancerous cells growing in your eye. Deadly, undoubtedly! But, why pediatric care? Certainly, it is because the age group of 5 and below are prone to such cancers. When your retinal cells engage in uncontrolled cell growth, the abnormal cells assimilate into a tumor, which may be in one or both of the eyes. It not only pushes your child towards blindness but also poses a life threat.

Charles Bonnet Syndrome

Do you know that nearly 30% of people with severe vision loss can experience hallucinations? Non-existent geometric patterns, creating pandemonium, and merging into near oblivion! Some might think you are crazy to imagine so. While some think you are losing the grip of reality. However, none of both is true. It is an acute eye syndrome that you are suffering from, and such a syndrome lasts for a year or two and then tapers off on its own or with effective treatments.

Hemolacria

Blood accompanying your tears is the alert in this regard! Hemolacria is an underlying eye problem that occurs when you witness a conjunctival injury. Similarly, it can also be an effect of some element stuck inside your eyelids or under it. Or, maybe invoking from blood disorders like hemophilia. The ophthalmologist shall narrow down the accurate cause to determine the treatment.

Next, down the line are the common eye disorders...

Refractive errors

Did you ever hear that your shape of the eye can determine whether or not light can focus directly on your retina? Perhaps, that is right! When the length of the eyeball is too long or too short, or there is a change in the shape of your cornea, the shape thereupon prevents lights from focusing on the retina. The consequent condition is what medical science calls refractive errors.

They are of four different types, namely – myopia or nearsightedness (which is the problem of seeing objects from a far distance),  hyperopia or farsightedness ( which is an issue in watching objects from a closer range), astigmatism that involves both nearby and far-away objects look blurry, and presbyopia where you are not even able to focus closely and read the letters of the phonebook. Contact lenses and eyeglasses can serve the purpose, but even for that, an ophthalmologist’s prescription is a must!

Cataract

Clouds in the sky give an aesthetic look to the natural world, but certainly not the clouding of your eye’s lens! It is because blindness is what plausibly follows. It can happen at any age. And comes up with a variety of factors that breaks down the proteins and fibers in the lens! In other words, an opaque area interrupting your normal vision. What is the cure? It is simple! Removal of the clouding by a surgical procedure.  That’s something only your eye doctor in Chandigarh can help you with.

Diabetic Retinopathy

As the name suggests, such a condition arises from complications of diabetes.  If you are having high diabetes, the blood vessels of your retina can undergo damages, and so is the light-sensitive tissue locating at the back of the eye. Progressing through four stages of mild and non-proliferative, moderate and non-proliferative, severe and non-proliferative, and proliferative, Diabetes Retinopathy deprives the retina of getting the blood supply. And it can threaten your vision of both eyes.

Macular Degeneration

Also known as age-related macular degeneration, such an eye disorder hampers your sharp and central vision. As a result, you face massive problems in performing your daily tasks. You possibly know that the central part (called the macula) of your retina allows you to see minute details in the frontline. But, when blood vessels grow abnormally under the macula, blood and fluid leakage occur. Therefore, leading to central vision loss rapidly! On the same note, if the macula thins out due to aging, the central vision gets gradually lost, and tiny yellow or white deposits pile up under the retina.

Now, you must be wondering if macular degeneration involves it all. No, it doesn’t! The above-stated two conditions are distinct and are the respective wet and dry forms of macular degeneration, which only your ophthalmologist can recognize.

Amblyopia

Doctors call it lazy eye, and that is exactly what happens! The vision in one eye reduces or gets lazy when your brain and eye do not work in synchrony. On top of that, your brain favors working in coordination with your other eye. In consequence, creating an imbalance in the positioning of your two eyes (also known as strabismus). Yes, amblyopia is simply a one-eye vision impairment that mostly affects children.

Strabismus

As already discussed, the lack of coordination between the eyes and brain triggers the emergence of such an eye disease. Under such a condition, your eye positioning gets misbalanced. Either it crosses in (the condition is esotropia), or it turns out (known as exotropia)! As a result, your eyes cannot focus on a single point at the same time. Instead, you look in two different directions thereafter.

Glaucoma

In this condition, your optic nerves get damaged because of a sudden rise in the normal fluid pressure inside your eyes. Sometimes, it proceeds slowly and sometimes, appearing suddenly with a quick vision loss.

Is that all? Nope! There are myriads of other eye defects that you may come to learn about after your eye diagnosis. Like,

  • Eyelid abnormalities,
  • Graves’ disease (thyroid-related eye problem),
  • Injury in the eye,
  • Allergies and infections,
  • Bulging of one or both eyes,
  • Dry eye or Lupus,
  • Pregnancy-related diabetes eye disease, and many more.

By now, we know the rare and common eye diseases against which the ophthalmologists in Chandigarh will stand firm. But, how is supposedly the question that is arising in your mind. It is a step-by-step process that they follow. And the process begins with identifying the accurate underlying causes behind the eye deficit. Why not glance through the causes in brief?

No doubt, it shall make your first consultation with the eye doctor more compact!
