Getting started
In this example, the kernel normally logs to the system log. The system
logging mechanism runs in the kernel and is fully integrated into it.
Even if system logging is not turned on, most non-privileged users can
access the kernel log files and view its content. Therefore, they can
also view the manual page for the kernel logging mechanism by
man kernel-logging-messages or by using the following command:

By default, the kernel logs messages to files under /var/log. The
messages are written to the log files in the chronological order of their
occurrence. Log files are often limited in size and may be subject to
limitations imposed by the operating system. For example, to reduce disk

buffer.
