Christmas Entertainment Options in 2022

You've already opened all the presents, eaten all the Nutella pancakes, and FaceTimed all of your out-of-town relatives, but you can't believe it's only 9 a.m. You may be looking for fun things do on Christmas Day in 2022 because, yes, there is something about this holiday that can make you feel like you've lived a whole life by noon.

We have compiled a list of fun and festive activities to help you while away the time, such as watching a marathon of your favourite Christmas films or engaging in some creative Christmas-themed activities. These wintertime pursuits are sure to put you in a festive mood no matter who you're spending the holidays with: your extended family, your best friend group, or your significant other.

Visit the Holiday Lights Display

Fallen leaves and the arrival of winter can make for a drab landscape, especially if there has been no recent snowfall to cover the ground in white. In this sense, the appearance of elaborate and enchanting Christmas light displays is a sight for sore eyes. You can prolong the joy of the holidays by taking a stroll through your (or a nearby) illuminated neighbourhood on Christmas Day. If it's too cold to take the kids on a stroll, you can always pack them into the car and go on a drive-through holiday lights tour instead. (Hot cocoa and holiday cookies are not required but are highly recommended.)

Rectify and Give Away

Giving to others on Christmas Day is a great way to get into the holiday spirit. But if the spirit moves you, keep in mind that many charities already have more volunteers than they can handle during the winter holidays. Instead, employ some Marie Kondo-style decluttering to make room for your new loot, and then give away your gently used items to charities like the Salvation Army, Dress for Success, Goodwill, and Soles4Souls. Not only will it be nice to have more room in the wardrobe, but studies have shown that being generous actually makes people happier.

Have a Merry Christmas Movie Marathon

There is no shortage of fantastic Christmas films for any audience to enjoy, from black-and-white classics that will make you tear up under the mistletoe (It's a Wonderful Life, anyone?) to slapstick holiday favourites that will make the whole family merry. Get the gang together or settle in with a hot drink on Christmas Day for a viewing that's sure to put you in the holiday spirit. Feeling stumped about picking a movie to watch? We guarantee that everyone in the family will enjoy a movie from our collection of holiday favourites.

Perform Christmas Carols

After hearing Christmas music on repeat in every store, home, and mind for the past few weeks, we understand if you'd rather turn off the holiday tunes and crank the death metal. If you're still in the holiday spirit, why not round up the ol' gang and go carolling? It's a fun way to get some exercise while also getting into the holiday spirit and visiting with neighbours.

Have a Family Game Night With a Theme

Don't feel like doing much on Christmas Day. We can't say that we blame you — that fire pit is pretty tempting. The holiday season is a great time to stay inside, cuddle up with a good book, or play some board games with friends and family. We recommend playing only holiday-themed games so that everything stays suitably joyous. Check out our collection of kid- and adult-friendly Christmas games and get the party started, even if you don't already have any in your game closet.
