Today we have with us Adetolani Eko. Adetolani, Co-founder of Vybe Tech, talks about what it takes to be a content writer and shares what impact it leaves on the lives of people.

Who has been the biggest influence in your life? What lessons did that person or those people teach you?

It has to be my immediate family. They have taught me so much about support and teamwork. 

Tell us about your childhood, what was the best part? Is there any specific incident that has largely influenced the kind of person you are today?

My childhood was fun and very interesting. I was a naturally quiet child but having a big extended family taught me about adaptability. I learnt how to fit into different scenarios and different settings when necessary. I think this has also affected my writing. I majorly write about tech but I can easily write about politics or mental health.

Where is your hometown, and what was it like when you were young?

I’m from Lagos in Nigeria. Growing up in Lagos was fun and very energetic. You never know what you’re going to see whenever you go out in Lagos. Everything from festivals, parties, pickpockets or protests help you become prepared to enjoy or endure any and everything

How important a role does content play in your life? Are you a full-time content creator? Why did you start creating content?

Content plays a big role in my life. I spend hours every day consciously consuming content by others and also spend a good amount of time creating mine though I only do this part-time.

I started creating content as a way to document my experiences. Content creation also has a way of forcing you to become more informed about the space you’re creating content about.

You can’t be a good travel blogger without actually travelling and going through the process.

What’s that one aspect of being a content creator no one talks about?

The process it takes to create content. There’s a lot of research, planning and effort that is part of the content creation process; especially if you want to do a good job. Sometimes it takes me weeks to write and edit an article that will be read in 5 minutes.

What’s the most satisfying part of being a content creator?

It has to be seeing the impact that your content has on people’s lives and work. Seeing how articles or videos that you have made has helped someone else get a new job, improve their business or just become a better person. It’s a truly humbling experience.

What are you up to currently and what are your long-term career goals?

Currently, I’m growing Vybe with my friends. Vybe is a matchmaking platform designed specifically for Africans. In the near future, I want to build more projects in various verticals and be able to share my experience with people across the world.

What drives you to create content regularly?

This is majorly driven by my experiences. When I learn something new or remember past experiences, I’m happy to share it with others so that they can learn from it.

What’s the most challenging part of being a content creator?

For me, it’s time. I have so much to do and sometimes it’s difficult to find the time to put out as much content as I would like to.

How do you make sure that you aren’t affected by nasty comments and negative things said about you?

I haven’t received much criticism about my work or content. But generally, I don’t let any nasty comments that cannot be proven affect me. If you say my writing is bad or my articles are wrong then you have to prove it.

I have more unpublished content than published content. Some of them were written and completed 2 years ago.

Why did you start creating content on Tealfeed?

I see the Tealfeed team as a group of determined people. They have grown the platform over time and seem determined to grow even bigger. I am happy to contribute what I can to that growth.

How would you want people to remember you?

Hmm. I want to be remembered as someone who can create value with little or nothing.

What's success for you and when you would consider yourself to be successful?

Success for me is freedom… Freedom to create without thinking of restrictions, commercial gain, or trying to please anybody or any group of people. This doesn’t mean that I won’t think of these things, it just means that I can choose not to.

Who’s your favourite creator? Why?

My favourite creator has to be Leonardo DaVinci and Kanye West. This is because of how dynamic both of them have been over time. DaVinci did everything from paintings to designing weapons, aircraft and even working on the Human anatomy.

Kanye West has done everything from Music production to writing songs, making shoes, making clothes and even set design. They were not afraid to start creating in a field that they knew nothing about. That is where I want to be.

To every individual who’s planning to start out as a content creator, what would you like to advise them?

The only advice is that you start. It doesn’t matter how bad you think your content is you should just start first.

You will improve as time goes on but that will only happen if you start.
