In this series “Creators Spotlight”, we are asking our creators about their journey. Watch out for them sharing their journey and getting candid with us.

Today we have with us Merilee Kern. Merilee, Chief Strategy, PR & Branding Officer, talks about growing up in Davie, Florida, and shares how important is the role of content in her life.

Who has been the biggest influence in your life? What lessons did that person or those people teach you?

I’ve been greatly influenced by my mother who, before her passing, exemplified hard work and tenacity. She had a ‘never give up’ spirit that drives me each and every day, no matter what challenges and obstacles are present.

Tell us about your childhood, what was the best part? Is there any specific incident that has largely influenced the kind of person you are today?

One favorite aspect of my childhood is my entrepreneurial drive. From car washing to neighborhood bake sales, and much in between, it was always a thrill to know I had the ability to make my own money based on my own ideas, timing, motivation, and creativity.

Coming up with ways to work hard and earn my own money was truly foundational for my future career life in which entrepreneurship has played a pivotal role.

Where is your hometown, and what was it like when you were young?

I grew up in Davie, Florida – then a small town. As kids we played outside from dawn until dusk, exploring, engaging in sports and games, and otherwise keeping ourselves occupied without any digital dependence. It was a wonderful time.

How important a role does content play in your life? Are you a full-time content creator? Why did you start creating content?

As a full-time content creator both for editorial and broadcast TV, the importance of content cannot be overstated. Developing engaging content of interest and utilitarian use to others started me on this path, and keeps me fully committed to it even now. My work is intended to ease and enrich the lives of others, and no other professional endeavor has been as satisfying.

What’s that one aspect of being a content creator no one talks about?

Cutting through the marketplace ‘noise’ to discern topics that are not only of interest, but that have not already been covered in the way that I endeavor toward.

Having timely, relevant, compelling and well-articulated content are pillars of this job role.

What’s the most satisfying part of being a content creator?

Receiving feedback from readers or TV audience members conveying how my tips or insights made a meaningful impact in their own life.

What are you up to currently and what are your long-term career goals?

Currently, I am focusing on helping my TV shows – Savvy Living (B2C) and Savvy Ventures (B2B) – to continue to grow with both viewers and prospective guests and brand participants, alike.

What drives you to create content regularly?

I’m dedicated to my art. It’s my form of creative expression, so the ‘feeling’ it gives me regularly fuels my fire.

What’s the most challenging part of being a content creator?

Time. Never enough of it and so much to do – and that I want to do to continue to grow my business.

How do you make sure that you aren’t affected by nasty comments and negative things said about you?

I haven’t really had this kind of experience, thankfully.

Anything else you would like our audience to know about you!

I’m a Forbes Business Council member, and an array of top-tier online and print media outlets like Forbes.com , FastCompany.com , BlackEnterprise.com , ThriveGlobal.com. I’m also the creator, executive producer, and host of multiple TV shows, including Savvy Ventures.

This business-focused show airs weekend daytime nationally on both FOX Business TV and Bloomberg TV, reaching a combined 152 million TV households/cable subscribers of a hugely desirable, educated demographic replete with CEOs, executives, event managers and the like.

I also produce and host Savvy Living—a lifestyle and travel TV show that airs weekend daytime in New York on the CBS-TV owned/operated WLNY, in Los Angeles on the CBS-TV owned/operated KCAL, in San Francisco on CBS-TV KPIX and KBCW, in San Diego on FOX and CBS-TV KGTV, in Atlanta on the CBS owned/operated WUPA and in Miami/Ft. Lauderdale on the CBS-TV owned/operated WBFS.

In addition, I’m a recurring guest with multiple other international, national and regional TV and radio programs. This includes the internationally-syndicated “The Jet Set” travel TV program, and nationally-syndicated shows like Coffee With America, Daily Flash, Daytime, The Tech Show, and more.

I’m also a frequent contributor to an array of major market/network regional TV programs airing in key DMAs like NBC’s Atlanta & Company (#10 DMA), ABC’s The Morning Blend Tampa/St. Pete (#11 DMA), ABC’s Sonoran Living Phoenix (#12 DMA), NBC’s Six in the Mix Miami and an array of others across the U.S.

Why did you start creating content on Tealfeed?

I determined it to be a valuable platform to disseminate my business-oriented thought leadership content, understanding those perspectives would gain visibility and be put to meaningful use.

How would you want people to remember you?

As someone who is generous and operates with extreme integrity, both in business and life overall. Integrity is everything.

What's success for you and when you would consider yourself to be successful?

I’m successful beyond measure for the ability to work for myself, on my own terms, doing exactly what I love. I’ve made it.

Who’s your favorite creator? Why?

Can’t pick just one. There’s just too much diversity among my favorites and this distinction is ever ebbing and flowing, just like content, itself.

To every individual who’s planning to start out as a content creator, what would you like to advise them?

To find their unique “voice” – their unique style and approach that will emotionally engage their intended audience.

Speak human and be relatable so that each piece of content can strike emotional chords – such is the beginning of real and long-term relationship building with an audience.
