1. Field of the Invention
This invention relates to a linear position sensor and, more particularly, to a linear position sensor that is more precisely actuated and which has a minimum tendency to detect an erroneous signal.
2. Prior Art
There is widely known a linear position sensor comprising a scale that is attached to the object, such as a hydraulic cylinder, that is to be detected, a slide as a detector that slides on the scale and is displaced in a longitudinal direction of the scale, and a rotation angle detector that detects the direction of displacement of the slide.
One of such linear position sensors is disclosed, for example, in Japanese Patent Application Laid-open No. HEI 4-276434. In this linear position sensor, the position detector is a microswitch that is brought into contact with a scale so that the position detector is actuated only when the slider is displaced from the scale by a predetermined distance and is thus displaced in a clockwise direction or a counterclockwise direction. The linear position sensor has a mechanism for checking the indication of the position detector to determine whether the linear position sensor is in error. For such checking mechanism, a resistor is provided in series with a contactor, and the contactor is connected to a bridge circuit. If the position detector is in error, the positions of contactors of the bridge circuit are such that the scale is not detected.
