Focus on the living, not the dead.

Let the dead bury the dead. Possibly my favorite saying. I'm not going to lie. Lately, I have lost an unprecedented amount of people. Something that I am accustomed to, given my background and profession. But recently, so many people have passed, that I found myself trying to process. Then today while in the shower, I heard the words let the dead bury the dead. Cleansed and refreshed, I focus on the present.

I am very good {especially as I close in on 60} at telling people how I feel about them. Lovers love. And that's what I do. I cheer for people. Somewhere along the way, I feel that many of us closed up emotionally.  As if cheering for another, would somehow short change you. When in fact, it is the exact opposite. You know how wealth creates wealth? As we encourage, we are encouraged. You will never find yourself on the short end of the stick when you act out of love. Because love goes where love is.

I personally keep many rituals close to my heart when it comes to the dead. I think that is where I got lost here recently. With so many passing, I found myself being buried in the rituals, and not in the rites. Rite- Theactof staying awake for devotional purposes. So as I stepped out of my shower this morning, I decided to stay awake. There are far too many people who I can stand face to face, and tell them I love them. This in no way discounts those who have passed.

Let the dead bury the dead. One day I too will be taking my last breath. My prayer is that the dead welcome me, and the living keep loving. We'll meet again. Until that time, may your eyes see, ears hear and heart be open. Let love be the vehicle that drives you in this life...and the life thereafter.
