With the commissioning of this new machine at Malerkotla, Punjab, the company became one of the few utilities worldwide to retrofit a whole substation with digital technology.

The project has also received funding through the NIC (Network Innovation Competition) of Ofgem for the development of a software-orientated wide area protection system.

The rehabilitation of the substation along the Cebu North Road, Mandaue City, was expected to be completed in 2020, which was initially pushed back due to COVID-19 challenges. Geared towards improving the overall network protection and reliability, this latest initiative could increase the popularity of digital substation design and pave the way for the rehabilitation of other substations in the region.

  1. Grid Solutions’ 225-kV substation to boost energy transition in Senegal

An electricity company in Senegal, Senelec, has established a distribution and transmission grid reinforcement, expansion and reliability enhancement program slated to be completed by the teams of VINCI Energies West Africa. In line with this, in September 2021, Grid Solutions commissioned the first-ever digital high-voltage substation in Thiès, Senegal. This 225-kV substation has emerged as a key enabler of the energy transition, with advanced functionalities and a reduced footprint of up to 50%.

  1. Efacec’s $11.2M digital substation to meet energy demand

To increasingly meet the escalating energy demand across the Medio Mundo region, Enel Peru announced an $11.2 million digital substation project in March 2021. The new substation was delivered under the grid Automation, Protection, and Control deal signed with Efacec. The project was designed to help Enel improve the electricity services quality for over 100,000 homes in Norte Chico de Lima, which could contribute to the progress of the digital substation market in the region.
