In 2019, a research was released, which predicted the active growth of online education — the volume of investments — could reach $350 billion in 2025. But the pandemic happened, and online education took off.

In this article, market research specialists of an international online university of IT professions Osmi Pro, have collected several solutions in EdTech that make learning easier and faster. At the same time, we have outlined how much money investors are willing to invest in them.

Artificial Intelligence in EdTech

Research and Markets in the 2018 Study predicted that the AI market in education is growing by about 47% each year. Artificial intelligence was expected to be used in a variety of educational applications, particularly in multilingual translators. In 2021, the AI market grew by 14%, compared to 2020. In 2022, Gartner predicts, the sphere will grow by another 21%.

Here are the AI technologies for EdTech that attracted investment this year.

Sanas

What’s the point? The platform quickly recognizes English speech and translates it into the required accent, using AI. For example, a neural network can switch English into British, Spanish, Australian, or French accents, and vice versa. Such projects usually neutralize the accent, but Sanas synthesizes speech in real time with the accent of the interlocutor. The platform makes it easier to work, live, and learn in a multicultural environment.

CoachHub

What’s the point? The platform develops talents with the help of AI. CoachHub matches coaches and psychologists to the individual needs of employees. There are now 2,500 specialists on the platform. The platform also collects data and analytics to help track progress. Now, CoachHub is used by Toyota, Fujitsu, BNP Paribas, and others.

Lingvist

What’s the point. The app uses AI and Big Data to adjust the content of the main course to the needs of a specific user. The result is easier, faster, and more interesting learning.

How much money was raised: €5.1 million.

Retrain

What’s the point? The platform uses AI to help professionals develop in the profession and helps organizations recruit and retain the best employees. Specialists on the platform get individual plans on how to move up the career ladder and close skill gaps. In the end, both sides win.

AR and VR in EdTech

The virtual reality market will also grow. AR and VR are forecast to grow at an average annual rate of 16.2%, through 2023. Online education is keeping up, introducing augmented reality and attracting investment.

Praxis Labs

What’s the point? The platform teaches fairness, equality, diversity, and inclusivity in companies. VR technologies offer the opportunity to live someone else's life or become an observer of a certain situation. Thanks to Praxis Labs, people will become more empathic and understand other people's pains and views. The project already has well-known major clients: eBay, Amazon, Google, Etsy, Uber.

Osso VR

What’s the point? The project enables doctors to work with the latest devices in three-dimensional space. For example, it is possible to endlessly perform surgery on a digital corpse without leaving home. In the future, the startup wants to create a multiplayer game where several specialists work in the virtual operating room at once — just like in real life.

Video and Audio

Video and audio no longer surprise anyone, but startups are still coming up with new projects — of course, because of the coronavirus, you can't meet your friends, study, or work properly. Technology saves the day.

Leap

What’s the point? A platform for elderly people that saves them from loneliness and also educates them. The platform hosts events in video and audio formats, where people actively interact in groups of five to ten people.

InSpace

What’s the point? The project is analogous to Zoom, only adapted for schools, universities, and companies. Students can move around in a virtual space, going from room to room — just like in an actual building.

Aggregators

We got used to aggregators with goods, a long time ago. Now, you can find courses on one site instead of sifting through the entire internet.

Learnerbly

What’s the point? It is a marketplace for corporate training. It quickly finds coaches, books, apps, and courses for individual requests. It stores training materials from more than two hundred providers.

Kimo

What’s the point? The startup collects all the training content on the internet with one keyword. It finds courses, articles, podcasts, and videos.
