The performance of the gas ejector is highly influenced by the velocity of flowthrough the ejector & the pressure of the motive gas. The greater the flow rate of gas through the ejector, the greater the pressure drop across the ejector. Conversely, the greater the pressure of the motive gas, the greater the difference between the process pressure and the pressure at the ejector. The performance of the ejector is affected not only by the pressure difference between the two points but also by the change in viscosity of the process fluid that is undergoing flow through the entire ejector. The change in pressure of the process fluid causes a fluctuation in the pressure around the nozzle if the flow rate of process fluid is increased. Within certain limits there will be no change in the pressure of process fluid, but if the flow rate of process fluid increases, the pressure of the process fluid at the nozzle will decrease. Ejectors are designed with a particular design velocity so that the flow rate of process fluid flowing through the ejector is at the lowest possible flow rate that will be accepted by the ejector. This design velocity is the permissible velocity that can be established by the ejector.The allowable flow rate through the ejector is variable depending on the losses across the equipment, the size of the gas ejector, the pressure at the discharge of the ejector, and the viscosity of the process fluid that flows through the ejector.The conventional ejector design involves the use of a theoretical model of an ejector and the calculation of design conditions for the motive fluid and the process fluid. The conventional calculation is incorrect unless the ejector or the motive nozzle is flawlessly modeled on the real ejector.
