A few years later, Rajkumar and Sg.Bhashyam, who played the lead roles in the film, came together in a film starring the two of them as husband and wife. The film, titled Meghasandesham and directed by Dasari N. Rao, was the seventh film made by Dasari N. Rao on S.P. Balasubrahmanyam. Made on this directorial debut of Dasari N. In April 2015, a film with the same title as the Telugu film was released in Hindi as Indian Laughter: The Story of Gags. The Hindi film is a remake of Meghasandesam. It is produced by Omkar Damani, Varun Grover, Ankit Tiwari, and Shraddha Kapoor. The film is inspired by the 1993 film of the same name. The film was released on 22 August 2015. It received mixed reviews, however.
While the Tamil remake was a critical and commercial success, the 1992 Tamil original warrants comparison. The movie is more about family relationships than romantic ones. It is an understated, oblique, and humorous take on the classic concept of the NRI in a South Indian family and is comparable only to the 1969 Hindi movie Mirza Ghalib.
