hi lynne, i would not recommend installing any of the previous version of sql server express on your production server. the previous versions are unsupported. your organization should use the full version of sql server express to install. this is available in the sql server 2018 ctp or, if you have an earlier release of sql server, from a download web site
a windows domain controller should have a joined internetwork connection. if the sql server express is joined to a workgroup for that computer, the workgroup client will have full network access to your sql server database server if the workgroup client is in the same workgroup. while this may be the best choice for some organizations, it is not for the entire organization. in addition, clients will not be able to access the sql server express database when it is not joined to the internetwork.
hi ed, check out the windows firewall section for instructions on how to secure an instance of sql server. be sure to have your firewall set to the highest profile allowed in the internet security tab:
hi ddbcc, i can upgrade the instance you just posted to sql server 2005 or sql server 2008, but that is not the edition you posted, right? please confirm what edition you are using. sql server 2005 and sql server 2008 are two completely separate editions of sql server and the licensing model is different. your use of the tool is invalid. you must use a copy of the full edition of sql server either from a sql server 2005 or sql server 2008 cd-rom or download.
i think that i was only getting this error because i had a group policy profile that was preventing sql from publishing the profiles. i've deleted that policy and can now publish from sp2. you can also get the error if there is a huge number of databases that have been set to offline. @bill, thanks for the answer but.. .i'm afraid that my "sql server express 2005 edition" is the "enterprise edition" and thus is not free. 2516d825b2
