The Government of India has set a target of achieving 100 GW of installed solar power capacity by 2022 and 175 GW by 2022.

How is Government planning to improve solar power generation in India?

This target was set as part of the National Solar Mission, which was launched in 2010 with the goal of promoting the development and use of solar energy in India. The government also aims to achieve 40% of the country's total power generation from non-fossil fuel sources by 2030.

The target was later revised to 30 GW from grid connected solar power projects and 20 GW from off-grid and decentralised solar power applications by 2022. The target includes 40 GW from rooftop solar power systems and the balance 100 GW from large and medium scale grid connected solar power projects. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the target of achieving 175 GW by 2022 has been revised to 2030.
