With the abundance of new technology in our interconnected world, now is the best time to start a business. Either full time or on the side. It has never been easier than the present.

There is so much to learn when you bet on yourself or give yourself the challenge of creating your income source(s), as Nassim Nicholas Taleb would describe it as becoming Antifragile.

Being “fragile” in this world is only having one income source that can get shut off by the whims of a boss or tough economy. Being “antifragile” is making yourself indispensable, learning new skills, creating multiple sources of income, adapting to new environments, and providing value to others.

I’ve consulted with several people who have tried to start a business, and a few months later, they haven’t made enough money. They decided that the business was a bad idea, so they began a new one. A few more months pass, and they are back in the same place. Nothing’s happened.

But the interesting thing is they wouldn’t have it any other way. The sense of a challenge and determination to fulfill a dream or calling compels them to continue, despite setbacks.

The more effort you put into your business, the more freedom it will reward you with, so put in the effort to create a company you can be proud of, whatever it is.

Think about how you can serve the world and its interests, not just your own. The world needs whatever you will create.

Create something you would be thrilled to work on from 6 a.m. to midnight — daily if need be. Commit to it for the long-haul.

If you plan to start a business, don’t do it just for the sole purpose of replacing your job. Do it because you also love it. It will prove to be far more rewarding.

A small business is a fantastic way to serve and leave an impact locally as well as globally. Now is the best time to start.
