In recent versions of the Workbench, as well as all the products in the IAR product family, and in many devices already, the new C++11 and C++14 programming features are available for programmers that want to take advantage of these features. IAR Embedded Workbench is the most integrated embedded development environment. It allows you to develop with C and C++ on supported ARM Cortex-M cores for which the debugging functions are built in. The ARM Cortex-M series of microcontrollers includes a heterogeneous bunch of devices, of which the ARM Cortex-M0, M3, and M4 are the most important ones for embedded systems development. The ARM Cortex-M0 is the first Cortex-M core, and is the core of the Cortex-M0/M0+ series of microcontrollers. The ARM Cortex-M3 is the predecessor to the Cortex-M4, and has the same technology as the Cortex-M4, apart from the fact that its instruction set is still uni-processor only. The ARM Cortex-M4 is the most advanced microcontroller used in commercial products. It has a 35-bit RISC CPU, the ARMv6 architecture, support for 32-bit instruction set extensions, the ability to emulate 26 additional ARMv7 instructions, and six additional ARMv8 instructions.
