Our schedule is swamped with meetings, laundry, and all the other things that just can't wait. But, there's a difference between keeping busy and being productive. What is NMA's, how do they impact your life, and how can you create easy success by inventing ordinary tasks and getting longterm value from a busy schedule.

A new month means a new start for many, but often we find it hard to keep up with new promises to ourselves. Our go-getter mindset somehow get's pushed back by all of the things that demands our time. We all know there’s a difference between being busy, and being productive. But even on our most effective days, what change does all our checked boxes really make?


Needle-moving activities (NMA's) are the things we do that actually move us forward, in a more impactful way than just meeting deadlines and finishing every day tasks. NMA's refers to the things that creates the most long-term value in our lives, the accomplishments that actually pushes us forward toward our goals. So, why should you care about NMA's? Well, it's an effective way of understanding the connection between what you do everyday, and the influence those activities has on your goals.

Identifying and creating NMA's in your life

NMA's goes hand in hand with stepping out of your comfort zone. Just think about all of the things you have in your life that is the most important. If you have a partner, it probably started with a somewhat nervous first date, a job started with being new at the office, and personally, my most amazing memories come from times when I stepped out of the ordinary and pushed myself to try something new. Now, obviously you don't have to skydive or go on a dating spree to create a difference in your life, but what you can do is look at your aspirations and identify what would move you forward the most. Would it be to reach out to someone in your field that is more experienced and ask for a lunchmeeting, to send a message to that person you've had your eye on for a while, or to try out a new form of exercise? The worst thing that could happen is a "no", or that you find that something is not for you. Still, by stepping out of your comfort zone, regardless of the result, you will gain confidence in facing what scares you.

If it's important to you, you'll find a way. If it's not, you'll find an excuse.

So, where do you start?

Start with making an invention with your aspirations. What do you want? What's the three most important goals in the coming three months? Now, start thinking of which NMA's will create the most long term value, if you have trouble identifying this, think of something that scares you to do in order to get this. It should make you feel a bit uncomftorable, when you got it make no excuses for yourself. Treat it like it's as important as showeing, something you just can't skip. Also, do it right away. If you have some ideas right now while reading this, do it. Send that email, callt that person, go to the gym, don't think too much about it. It doesn't have to be perfect, you're already one step closer. Let's go get it.
