The game starts out like Sonic 1 with everything revolving around strings on Sonic. You don't even have an air gauge. Sonic is warm up to going over, all he needs is a little push. He is more like Yoshi where he can "get exercise without effort" by simply walking. You are like Mario that you are in a running motion, rather than jumping. All you need is a little direction, and Sonic will start running at full speed until he crashes into a spiked wall, at which point he will slow down to a mere walking pace. Sonic's main weapon is his ability to spin around, which allows him to spin from one end of the screen to the other and strike enemies that he comes across. This to some games, is the end of it and they recognize. Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric is no different, he only creates spin fields in which you can jump to no avail.
"I am a huge Sonic fan and have been for 30 years at this point and I have to be honest and say that Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric would be close to the bottom of my best Sonic games list. I do not think it is the worst game in the world like some people would have you believe.
