Alex Freund is a well-regarded interview coach in New Jersey.

He wrote, "There are three basic questions EVERY interviewer needs answers for is (1) do you have the right skills and experience (2) can you show your motivation through your genuine enthusiasm? And (3) will you fit into their work style? This sounds simple and logical. However, this is not so easy to combine, emulate and demonstrate when under pressure. It takes some skills like an actor on stage. Practice with someone such as a friend, family member, another job seeker, till you feel confident. No wonder the cliché – practice makes perfect.

I responded, "Statistics show that over 60% of hiring managers have buyer's remorse within 18 months of hiring someone. Why? Because they think they can assess for fit. They can't. Why? Everyone is on good behavior during interviews. We all know candidates are but so are hiring managers. No one tells the potential hire about why the last four people left other than to say, "Better opportunity." Why was it better than what this company offered? No one says anything more than "more money, better position." I could keep going on but hiring managers often lie about the work and the opportunities and new employees discover the lies post-employment. You can't whether someone will fit if they are on good behavior and so are you. You can determine competence. You cannot determine fit."
