Tongarewa Scholarship for International Students is now open for applications from suitably qualified students. It is a fully funded scholarship for all students sponsored by the Victoria University of Wellington.

About the Scholarship

The Tongarewa Scholarships honor the University’s dedication to the community of international students. Each year, we give these scholarships to international students in a variety of fields.

This partial fee-based grant will help cover one year’s worth of tuition. Applicants may begin their first year of an undergraduate degree at Victoria University of Wellington or beginning a postgraduate degree program.

Academic excellence is a criterion for scholarship selection. They seek to enroll in classes the following year, and their tuition payments will be credited.

Candidates that make the short list might be asked for more data to back up their applications. As long as a housing application is submitted before the deadline to University Accommodation Wellington, scholarship recipients are assured an offer of a spot in one of our Halls of Residence.

Eligibility for Scholarship

Applicants must be:

1. International students who are paying full international fees.

2. Entering their first year of an undergraduate degree or entering a postgraduate degree.

You are not eligible for this scholarship if you:

1. Completed your secondary education at a New Zealand school.

2. Completed the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) or Foundation Studies Program.

3. Are in your second year of study in the same degree program at Victoria University of Wellington.

Documents Required for Tongarewa Scholarship

The following documentation must be provided as part of your online scholarship application:

1. A personal statement of up to 500 words outlining why you wish to study at Victoria University of Wellington, your academic goals, and why you merit the scholarship. You should also include any leadership positions and details of your involvement in your school or community.

2. Full transcripts and other documentation relevant to the qualification type.

3. An offer of place in Victoria University of Wellington (conditional or unconditional).
