Hello my writer friend,

Welcome to The Wellwords.

The Wellwords is a newsletter for aspiring freelance writers. If you want to excel in content writing and build a stable freelance business, you are in the right place. This newsletter aims to do two things:

  1. Help you improve your writing skills and lifestyle as a freelance writer
  2. Help you build your freelance business from scratch as a wellness writer

Both of these will happen with the inside stories from my journey that I haven’t shared before anywhere. These are both the success and failures I have had in my time as a professional writer. It will include real client conversations, their objections, money management as a freelancer, and many more things around the subject of freelancing and wellness writing.

I have been a freelance wellness writer for the past two years. In this short time, I have worked with some major start-ups, budding coaches, and industry leaders of the wellness community.

As I have grown in my journey, I have had budding writers come to me and ask questions now and then. This newsletter will answer all those questions (one at a time) in the most detailed manner.

With The Wellwords, I will share my go-to resources and secrets. These will help you to monetize your writing skills and have a satisfying run as a freelance writer. I use the word “satisfying” and not “successful” because success is subjective. It may or may not mean the same for all of us. Satisfaction, on the other hand, is rare to find. It’s human nature, we’re never truly satisfied with what we have. But, working on your passion and creating a life doing what you love, does take us closer to the feeling of “satisfaction”.

I will share a new post every Sunday morning for you to prepare for the new week to move the needle in your freelancing business.

I know I have a long way to go. Even after doing some of the best work with some leading wellness personalities, I know that my best is yet to come.

If you have come here from my Instagram or LinkedIn, you’d already know my story. But, here’s a little background to help you understand who I am and why you should even consider subscribing to my content among the pool of amazing creators that are surfacing on the web.

I started my freelance writing journey back in 2020. Like most people, my life also took a turn during the pandemic. But, content writing came to me long before the pandemic happened. The pandemic was a time of self-realization.

Like most of you, my pandemic routine also revolved around eating, sleeping, and watching Netflix. Until one day, when it changed. I remember I was watching Chilling Adventures of Sabrina on Netflix when dad called me. He started scolding me for not preparing for the upcoming December UGC Net exam. With all honesty, I had given it twice before and failed both times. I wasn’t really a fan of pursuing a career in teaching or civil services, per se. Not that I have anything against them but simply because I wanted to do something of my own.

My father was furious at me for not caring at all about this major exam. I don’t blame him at all. In fact, for everything that I am today, the credit goes to my father. He continuously worried about my career and his perception that I won’t do much good in my life. Because neither did I clear my medical entrance exam after high school nor did I make it to the coveted seat for Ph.D.

Both of us worried that I would end up in a 4-by-4 kitchen being a housewife. So, I started content writing for two reasons:

  • To not end up in a kitchen alone and waste all my education
  • To have my life together and build it doing what I love: write

Here’s how it started:

I discovered content writing back in 2016. I was in the second year of my graduation from Amity University. During a class, our Business Communications professor brought up content writing. It felt like a life-saving discovery.

Next, I know, I was in the professor’s office to learn more about it. I had a gazillion questions for her. She directed me to an ex-student who was running a small content agency. I talked to that girl and she told me she would hire me as a marketing trainee. Since I had no prior experience in the industry she wouldn’t pay me anything.

Guess what I did?

Without giving it a second thought, I said ‘yes’ instantly.

I wanted to understand the world of content writing and marketing. Unfortunately, it didn’t last long. After writing an article for them I went back to studies because I had to keep up with my attendance as well.

My curiosity about content writing was suppressed during my regular college life. But, it never vanished entirely. All this while I was running a writer’s page on Instagram. It was random poetry. For 2 to 3 years I was writing to satiate my love for words. During this time, I was also saving websites and writers who were doing well as freelance writers.

So when the pandemic happened, I knew where to start from. My final exams ended in the last week of April. After that episode of scolding from my father, I decided to give myself this one chance. I replaced Netflix with Youtube and went all into learning content writing and running a freelancing business.

Since then, I have done better than I expected. From working with a Singapore-based wellness start-up to working with industry leaders, I have had a great run so far.

This newsletter aims to share everything I have learned and all the mistakes I have made during my journey with no filter and all honesty.

I am not here to become another freelancer who will ask you to do “10 things to earn 1 lakh per month as a freelancer”. I am just here to be a bridge between you and the real life of a freelance writer.

So, until next Sunday,

Your writer friend!
